Teach a Live Workshop: Build Something Complex on Vultr

Run a live session where at least ten people build a real multi-service architecture on Vultr, step by step.

POINTS

What you will do

Take a hard topic and teach it so that people who have never built it succeed in one session, and understand why each Vultr service is in the design.

Starting point: you only need a Vultr account. This challenge is self-contained, so you can do it without having done any other.

The requirements

  • A target architecture using at least three different Vultr services, with a diagram
  • A step-by-step build that attendees complete themselves, not a demo they watch
  • At least 10 attendees, online or in person
  • A prepared environment plan: how people get accounts, credits or access, and how you keep costs down
  • A recovery plan for attendees who get stuck, such as checkpoints or a known-good starting point
  • A clean-up step so nobody leaves resources running

Preparing the workshop

  1. Pick an architecture that is complex enough to be interesting but achievable in two to three hours
  2. Build it yourself end to end and time every step
  3. Break it into milestones, each one working on its own
  4. Write the explanation of why each service is used and what the alternatives would be
  5. Dry run it with one or two people before the day
  6. Run it, record it if everyone consents, and collect feedback

Example architectures

  • A web app on VKE with a Managed Database, Object Storage for uploads and a Load Balancer
  • A private AI assistant on Cloud GPU with a vector store and a secured front end
  • A highly available web tier across two instances with a managed database and automated backups
  • A VPC-only application with a NAT gateway and a bastion for administration

How you will be judged

  • Attendees finished the build, not just watched
  • The design explains why each Vultr service was chosen
  • A real completion rate and honest lessons learned

Get consent for any recording or photos and follow the community Code of Conduct. Make sure everything built is destroyed at the end of the session.
