Ship with GitOps: Push to Git, It Deploys

Make Git the single source of truth for a Kubernetes app, then break it and roll back.

POINTS

What you will build

A cluster that deploys itself from Git, with a rollback you can demo in under a minute.

Starting point: you only need a Vultr account. This challenge is self-contained, so you can do it without having done any other.

The plan

  1. Create a VKE cluster
  2. Install Argo CD and expose it securely
  3. Put your app manifests in a Git repo and point Argo CD at it
  4. Change the image tag in Git and watch the rollout
  5. Push a deliberately broken release
  6. Revert the commit and show the cluster recover
BASH
kubectl get applications -n argocd

How you will be judged

  • No manual kubectl apply after setup
  • Self-heal is on: manual edits get reverted
  • A clear before, broken and recovered timeline

Never commit secrets to the repo. Use sealed secrets or an external secret store.

Requirements

Argo CD managing the app from Git

Automated sync with self-heal

Bad release shipped and rolled back via Git
