What you will build

Your own GitHub-style service, with working automated checks.

Starting point: you only need a Vultr account. This challenge is self-contained, so you can do it without having done any other.

The plan

  1. Deploy Gitea with Docker Compose and a database
  2. Put it behind HTTPS
  3. Create a user and a repository, and push code over SSH
  4. Register a CI runner on a separate small instance
  5. Add a workflow that runs tests on every push
  6. Make a push fail on purpose and show the red check
BASH
git remote add origin ssh://git@git.example.com/you/project.git
git push -u origin main

How you will be judged

  • The runner is isolated from the Gitea host
  • Registration is closed or controlled
  • Both a passing and a failing run are shown

Keep CI secrets in the platform's secret store, never in the repository.

Requirements

Gitea running behind HTTPS

Code pushed over SSH

Runner registered on a separate instance

Passing and failing CI runs shown
